Low-cost measures designed to deal with clusters of accidents
Accident commissions are made up of traffic experts from the police and road traffic and road building authorities, who work together to mitigate accident black spots.
In times when there is limited finance available, accident commissions increasingly find themselves caught between the obligation to put in place measures to increase road safety and the need to keep costs as low as possible. For that purpose it is essential to know what impact is to be expected with a high degree of probability from each low-cost measure in terms of improvements to road safety. The German Insurers Accident Research (UDV) project provides valid information on this for the first time for the 35 most common categories of measures. A sample catalog summarizes the findings clearly and serves in practice as a manual allowing to quickly look up for the effectiveness of low-cost measures.
