Accident risk of parking for pedestrians and cyclists
Almost one in five accidents in built-up areas involving pedestrians or cyclists and injury is thus connected to parking. The biggest problems were dooring accidents and accidents where parked vehicles obstructed the view. In a research project, recommendations were developed on how to avoid these accidents.
The protection offered by child seats has improved constantly since they became mandatory in 1993. Although a wide range of different models are available, it can reasonably be said that even the simplest and cheapest seats offer adequate protection in theory. The main problem in connection with child seats is misuse.
Motorcyclists still have a significantly higher risk than car occupants of being injured or even killed in an accident. The aim of this study is to analyse the accidents that occur in order to identify typical accident situations and impact scenarios.
The obligation of use for cycle paths in Germany has increasingly been removed in the last years. A study of the UDV concluded that no significant changes in the accident or conflict characteristics were found once the obligation of use was removed. The main reason is that the majority of cyclists cycle on the existing cycle paths irrespective of whether it is obligated to use them or not.
The aim of the study, which was initiated from the UDV (German Insurers Accident Research), was to estimate the time taken by tired drivers to safely assume control of a vehicle after a level 3 drive and long driving times. In addition, their initial reactions were analyzed in a typical complex scenario following a takeover request.
